Q:  Will taking a protein supplement make me big and bulky?

A:  Of course not! Neither a high protein diet or vigorous heavy weight training will make a person, male or female big and bulky unless a diet high in calories is providing what is known as a 'caloric surplus'. This means that is not possible to be gaining a significant amount of muscle mass or fat mass without a surplus in calories. Have you ever heard of the calories in vs calories our principle? It is true! So train hard and enjoy your whey protein!!

 

 Q:  Will protein make me fat?

A:  No. In fact it may help you if you are on a diet. You see the amino acids in protein may help keep your blood sugar levels stabile. This is important because it keeps you feeling good all day and stops your craving for food that occurs when your blood sugar level drops. If your diet is too high in carbohydrates your blood sugar levels go though peaks and valleys. You go from a burst of energy and feeling full to a lull and being hungry. In addition, if you are dieting, getting 17 grams of protein from a protein shake that has only 90 calories is better than getting your protein from a big meal which may have hundreds of calories.

 

Q:  Are supplements just for men?

A:  No. Many women who are just entering into the fitness realm do not think that there are supplements out there that are made for them and often many have no idea of what to take. There are supplements that are made specifically for women, some I recommend and others I do not.  There are many products out there designed exclusively for women and there are many products out there that are marketed directly for men but are just as useful for women.  There are proteins, weight loss formulas, multi-vitamins, etc. and they are specifically formulated for women.

  

Q:  Can I use a pre-workout?

A: Women can use many of the same pre-workout supplements that men use. The only difference is that they may want to use slightly lower dosages of pre-workout supplements to accommodate the needs of their bodies.
